A Kenyan Cinematic Premiere of “Stand Together As One” Falutin Films is proud to host a Kenya cinematic premiere of “Stand Together As One” at Westgate Cinema on April 5th, marking the 40th anniversary of the release of the song “We Are the World” in response to the 1983-85 famine in northern Ethiopia. This powerful documentary chronicles the historic events surrounding the famine, including the story of how Kenyan photojournalist Mohamed Amin and BBC correspondents Michael Buerk and Mike Wooldridge overcame government restrictions and civil war to document the crisis, and how musician-activists Harry Belafonte and Bob Geldof galvanized an unprecedented global relief effort through “We Are the World,” Live Aid, and Band Aid. The film will be presented by Salim Amin (Mo Amin’s son) and followed by a panel discussion with Salim and other professionals. Alongside the screening, Falutin Films will host a one-day photo exhibition in the Westgate atrium, showcasing a selection from Mo Amin’s archive—capturing not only the famine but also pivotal moments in East Africa’s post-independence history. Join us for this special film conversation as we reflect on the impact of journalism, music, and activism in shaping the world we live in today.
