At The Gathering 2026, we explore the Third Space, the threshold where AI and human presence converge. It belongs to neither entirely, but both have the power to shape it. Young people today are growing up in a world where AI is already part of everyday life. They use it, question it and sometimes fear it. The adults building systems around them are asking the same questions. Will AI replace the therapist in the room? Will it make care more accessible or less human? The debate about whether AI will replace humans or whether humans are superior to machines has distracted us from the more important conversation. What can we build together that neither could build alone? The Third Space. Instead of choosing sides, the Third Space asks us to make room for both and create something new in that tension. This is not a story about replacement. It is about what becomes possible when AI takes on the heavy load and hands back to humans what only humans can give. As we bring together researchers, technologists, policymakers and practitioners, we have a rare opportunity to shape that future together. This year, we ask what the future of mental wellbeing with AI looks like.
